Ordering a Portrait from photo - one of the best ways to express your love to your dearest ones, including pets and yourself!
HOW TO ORDER:
*** Send or email Alex a photo(s) of the person or people you would like a portrait of. For the best results you need a clear photo(s) taken with good lighting conditions. Group photos taken from a distance or photos with sharp sunlight that form strong shadows are usually not suitable for drawing a good portrait. As a rule of thumb, the better your photos are the better the portrait.
*** Once the circumstances of the portrait are finalised, a third of the price is requested as a deposit.
*** The portrait normally takes about 2 - 5 days to complete.
*** The balance is then paid on completion, after you have received a preview photograph of the finished portrait.
*** The picture is then rolled up, placed in a waterproof plastic sleeve and hardboard container and sent to you by Royal Mail next day delivery. (UK only). The postage of £8 will be added to the price below.

Technique:
The technique that Alex uses in portrait painting is called "Dry Brush Style". Practically, the method is applying a very small amount of oil paint onto a canvas or textured paper using a variety of sized brushes.
There are a number of advantages of the Dry brush style when we compare it with the more commonly used charcoal, pencil and pastel drawing.
Here they are:
- The finished portrait looks more delicate, smoother and much more transparent, therefore far more attractive than if drawn in charcoal or pastel.
- The thin layer of oil paint dries within a few hours. The result is permanent. The finished painting does not need any chemical spray (fixative) to protect it from smudging as it would be in the case of charcoal, pencil or a pastel drawing.
Paper
The portraits are drawn on a high quality, 190gsm Bockingford paper using "Windsor&Newton" oil colour.
The size of the paper is 15x22 inches (560x380mm) which is perfectly suited for drawing single, double and even triple portraits.
If for some reason you would like a portrait on a different size paper, it can be customized to the size up to 30x22 inches.
In this case the prices may vary to the Price List above.
